Finishes
Interior finishes serve as accents to design and protection of the structure from water.
Lomg-term use and function rely on proper workmanship. Its a showplace for architectural appeal and carpentry skills
Ceiling Finish (Drywall, Suspended Ceiling)
Installed in new construction beneath exposed joints or when remodelling, below existing ceilings, in sections and pieces.
Installing Ceiling Panels
When installing ceiling panels, it is key that when you set up the grid for the ceiling so that it is square and consistent. This matters because if the grid is off then aesthetically the ceiling will look bad and you will also spend too much time cutting every ceiling tile to size.
Adjusting Main Runner
To adjust the level of the main runner, you must first have the wall angle at the desired height, and it must be level all the way around the room. Next to adjust the height of the main T you simply adjust the height of the bar by adjusting your hanger wire. The hangar wire is what supports the structure of the dropdown ceiling.
Inserting Cross Tee
Once all the main tees have been put in place you can then move onto installing the cross tees, these tees are not as heavy gauge as the main tees and will not support as much weight. When connecting them into the main T you simply click them into the provided grooves and press them until you feel an audible “click” sound. Once this has been achieved on both sides of the cross tee then it has been installed.
Fitting Ceiling Panels

When Fitting Ceiling panels around a large obstruction leading into the ceiling you must first attach wall mould around the obstruction. Once this has been done you can cut the tile to fit around this obstruction and it will be able to rest on the T’s and wall mould.
Stair Finish
Staircases are usually one of the most outstanding features of the interior of a building.
Open Stair Body
When constructing stairs there are two different types, open or closed. They both consist of Stair Body, Balustrade and Finish stringers. The staircase can have both closed and open properties or just be one. What determines if the stair is open is that the ends of the treads are exposed to view, however for a closed staircase they butt against the wall.
Closed Stair Body
Finish Floors
Unfinished Flooring
Flooring that has not had a finish applied to it before it has been installed. Generally, this is a hardwood floor that you install and after it has been assembled you sand and apply a finish on site. There are no bevels in the wood and once it is finished you will be left with a seamless floor. This finish usually costs more than installing a prefinished floor.
Prefinished flooring
Prefinished floors are what you would think of from the name. It is flooring that has already been bevelled, sanded, stained and ready to be installed with no extra prep work leading to the finished product. Once it has been installed you don't have to do anything else to it.
Interior Doors & Door Frames
Residential and light commercial buildings
Interior doors vary significantly based on where they are being used. Typically in a residential home, a lightweight hollow MDF-styled door is used. However commercial applications need a stronger long-lasting door that will be able to handle kicks, shoves, and more opening and closing than its residential counterpart. The same concept applies to exterior doors and the hardware being used.
Interior Sizes
The typical sizes of interior doors are 18, 20, 24, 28, 30, 32. This is the size of the finished door, however, the rough openings for these need to be larger. We make the rough openings bigger, so we can adjust the door frame using shims to make sure the doors are assembled plumb and have equal spacing
Assembling the door frame
When assembling a door frame, there is a difference between prehung vs not prehung. When you have a prehung door all of the hinges have been installed and routed out ahead of time, reducing the amount of time you may spend on the door, however they cost more and won't always work in every setting.
Commercial buildings use metal door frames that you simply need to adjust to be plumb and square before fastening into the wall. If you need to make your own door frame, you must first cut the jambs and header to the desired size. After this you can proceed to mark the spacing of your hinges on the desired jamb and proceed to remove the material to allow the hinge to rest flush. Next assemble the pieces together and fit into place, adjust using shims to get a plumb install and work on preparing the door.
Setting the door frame
When setting the door frame after it has been adjusted plumb, you can use screws to fasten into the studs. It is good practice to fasten where it will be covered by the doorstop, so less wood fill/caulking is required and a better finish is achieved.
Interior Trim
When installing door casing, It is important to keep a consistent spacing around the door frame, generally 1/8 “ spacing is common practice. Install the top piece of trim than the two sides

Installing Window Trim
The window trim is very similar to Door trim. You have around â…› spacing around the window frame and cut the pieces to fit.
Plywood
Wall Paneling
Sheets of prefinished plywood, hardwood, particle board, plastic laminate and other materials are used to panel walls.
Hardwood
Plastic Laminates
Particle Board and MDF
Plans and specifications often call for installing wall panelling in certain areas of both residential and commercial construction
Installation of sheet paneling
Ceramic Tile
Widely used in restrooms, showers, baths, kitchens and similar areas
Wall preparation and tile application
The preparation before tiling a wall is to make sure that the wall is clean sanded and no large holes or gaps are in the wall before starting to apply the tile. Apply tile adhesive and lay the tiles on the wall.
Tile Layout
When laying out tiles, to avoid any small out-of-shape tiles or weird patterns, it is important that you first square the area that you are working in. This is traditionally done using the 3, 4, 5 methods but sometimes can also be achieved using a 3beam laser level to show square. Once this has been done and the area has been marked you will be able to measure and calculate the size of the tiles that need to be cut to achieve a uniform pattern on all edges of the tile job
Ultimately
In conclusion, finished carpentry is the final step that everyone sees when they enter a room. It is important to make sure that care, accuracy, and good techniques are used leading up to this stage, so a quality final product can be achieved. No matter how good the finishing carpenter is they can only fix so many mistakes made from previous work completed.
